Florida death metal icons OBITUARY performed three brand new songs during their January 24 concert at The Brass Mug in Tampa, Florida. Fan-filmed video footage of the entire show can be seen below. The band last year offered up a pay-per-view, professionally shot live stream of its homecoming performance at The Orpheum which featured a pummeling all-classics setlist from its first three platters of brutality: 1989's "Slowly We Rot" 1990's "Cause Of Death" and 1992's "The End Complete". Due later in the year, OBITUARY's new album is being recorded with the Kickstarter funding help of their legion of dedicated fans around the globe. The campaign was rooted in an honest desire to produce the next record on the band's own terms. "We've been creating death metal since 1984," the band commented. "It's who we are...it's in our blood. OBITUARY's next album will be the follow-up to the "Darkest Day" full-length CD, released in 2009 via Candlelight Records. "Darkest Day" landed at position No. 32 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.

OBITUARY Preparing To Hit The Road, Enter The Studio

Florida death metal veterans OBITUARY will bring their brutal wares to the stage this fall on a short series of live assaults. The tour begins with a pair of back-to-back shows at Brooklyn, New York's Saint Vitus Bar on October 9 and 10, before flattening nine more venues through October 20. Having been holed up in their own Redneck Studios the last few weeks penning the follow-up to 2009's punishing "Darkest Day" full-length (2009), OBITUARY's upcoming shows serve as a temporary writing break. Elaborates drummer Donald Tardy: "We have been busting our asses in the studio, having a blast and writing new material. Twelve songs are done and ready to be recorded but we want a monster album for our fans so we are working on a few more to make this record huge! David E. Gehlke of DeadRhetoric.com recently conducted an interview with singer John Tardy of Florida death metal veterans OBITUARY. A few excerpts from the chat follow below. DeadRhetoric.com: What was the tipping point in terms of you doing something like this? Your relationship was Roadrunner wasn't always so rosy, but with Candlelight you were a priority, at least. John Tardy: Yeah, we thought about it back then. It was one of those things where we talk about it and talk about [it], but don't really do anything. When it came time to get an album done, we were always like, "Okay, let's sign." Obviously, because of those contracts we signed withRoadrunner early on, that music is just gone. I couldn't print up a copy of"Slowly We Rot" if I wanted to and start selling them. That's a sad thing. And to think back then as teenagers signing those contracts, we had no idea to ask attorneys to look them over to see that it was a pretty standard contract. Former OBITUARY Guitarist Arrested For Methamphetamine Production, Possession

According to Tri-County Sun Times, former OBITUARY, SIX FEET UNDERand MASSACRE guitarist Allen West was arrested at the end of March in Lake Panasoffkee, Florida for methamphetamine production and possession. After the musician called 911 to report that two males broke into his house, "[responding] deputies met with the property owner Allen West in a wooded area next to the residence," the web site reports. "Allen Weststated that two male subjects forcibly entered his house by kicking in the front door at which time he fled out the rear and hid in the woods.
