AURA NOIR Pays Tribute To SLAYER’s JEFF HANNEMAN At France’s HELLFEST (Video)

Fan-filmed video footage of Norwegian black/thrash butchers AURA NOIRperforming a cover version of the SLAYER classic "Fight 'Till Death" as a tribute to late SLAYER guitarist Jeff Hanneman at this year's Hellfest, which was held June 21-23 in Clisson, France, can be seen below. AURA NOIR's fifth full-length album, "Out To Die", was released in March 2012 via Norway's Indie Recordings. "Out To Die" marked the return of guitarist Rune Eriksen (a.k.a. ex-MAYHEM guitarist/songwriter Blasphemer), who resides in Portugal and previously led his own band AVA INFERI. Eriksen made several trips back to Norway to work on the new AURA NOIR songs with Aggressorand Apollyon (guitar, bass, vocals, drums; also bassist in IMMORTAL). Members of SLAYER released a statement on May 9 saying thatHanneman died of alcohol-related cirrhosis. Fan-filmed video footage of Swedish melodic death metal pioneers AT THE GATES performing a cover version of the SLAYER classic "Captor Of Sin"on June 21 at this year's Hellfest in Clisson, France can be seen below. When introducing the track, AT THE GATES vocalist Tomas Lindbergsaid: "This next song is not an AT THE GATES song, it's a cover. Without this band, the music that we love so much would not exist in this world as we know it. We wanna send this one out to one of the greatest songwriters of modern days. This one goes out to Mr. Jeff Hanneman. Ladies and gentlemen, we give you 'Captor Of Sin'." A studio recording of AT THE GATES' version of "Captor Of Sin" was included on the reissue of the band's classic 1995 album "Slaughter Of The Soul". Members of SLAYER released a statement on May 9 saying thatHanneman died of alcohol-related cirrhosis. Mark "Barney" Greenway of British grindcore pioneers NAPALM DEATH joined Danish metal rock 'n' rollers VOLBEAT on stage on June 23 at the Hellfest in Clisson, France to perform the VOLBEAT track "Evelyn". Fan-filmed video footage of his appearance can be seen below. In April 2011 interview with Straight.com, VOLBEAT vocalist/guitaristMichael Poulsen spoke about Barney's appearance on the studio version of "Evelyn", which appears on the band's fourth album, "Beyond Hell/Above Heaven". "Writing a song like 'Evelyn' was my way of showing people that it was not only the '50s elements we were inspired by, but we were actually growing up with a lot of great metal bands," Michael said.

VOIVOD Joined By JASON NEWSTED, PHILIP ANSELMO On Stage At France’s HELLFEST: Pro-Shot Video

Canadian metal innovators VOIVOD were joined by their former bassistJason Newsted and DOWN/ex-PANTERA frontman Philip Anselmo during their June 23 concert at Hellfest in Clisson, France to perform the songs "Voivod" and "Astronomy Domine" (PINK FLOYD cover), respectively. Professionally filmed video footage of the concert can be seen below. Newsted joined VOIVOD in 2002 and served as producer for the metal legends' self-titled album in 2003 on the Chophouse Records label (in association with Surfdog Records). Longtime friends and pioneers of metal music, Newsted and originalVOIVOD vocalist Snake (a.k.a. Denis Belanger), guitarist Piggy (a.k.a.Denis D'Amour), and drummer Away (a.k.a. Michel Langevin) first began working together at Newsted's Chophouse studio in 1995, intent on keeping the music alive between busy touring schedules. However, withNewsted's departure from METALLICA in January 2001, he was free to join VOIVOD as a full-fledged member and would remain involved with the group until 2008.

PHILIP ANSELMO Joins ACCEPT On Stage At France’s HELLFEST; Video Available

Philip Anselmo (DOWN, PANTERA) joined reformed heavy metal legendsACCEPT on stage this past Saturday, June 22 at Hellfest in Clisson, France to perform the band's classic song "Fast As A Shark". Fan-filmed video footage of his appearance can be seen below. ACCEPT's April 12 concert at Teatro Caupolicán in Santiago, Chile was professionally filmed for the band's forthcoming DVD. During a recent interview with Radio Futuro, guitarist Wolf Hoffmannrevealed that ACCEPT is planning to enter the studio soon to begin work on the follow-up to 2012's "Stalingrad". "We're currently gathering material," he said. "We're writing stuff actively, so give us a few more months, and hopefully, by the end of the year, we 'll have enough material to actually start working on a new studio album. But it won't be long. I can't guarantee when exactly it's gonna be happening, but we wanna definitely go back to the studio as soon as we can."
