A magnum mirandum from Magnus! WITCHCRAFT’s main man, Magnus Pelander’s newborn idea PELANDER, is an acoustic solo project and on November 2016 they released their first album entitled “Time”. The listener, has a unique opportunity to discover a completely different aspect of Magnus’ character, through this surreal, psychedelic album. A single guitar, some very discrete inflatables and strings and Magnus’ extra ordinary vocals, are enough to create a unique environment and travel the listener to his deepest thoughts. “Time”, is a seven track album, with a total duration of forty-three minutes.
“Umbrella”, is the first song of the album and this was the one that was released as a single too. Despite its five minute duration, it flows really smoothly and introduces this album’s character to the audience. Simple plain acoustic guitars, with some phrases that give an extra spice to the song, along with a peaceful flute melody, that give birth to, probably, the best song on “Time”.
The following two songs “Family Song” and “The Irony of the man” continue in the same mien as the previous one, but the slower guitar rhythm, the backing vocals and the inflatable’s serene melody, form an environment quite ambient.
“A single guitar, some very discrete inflatables and strings and Magnus’ unique vocals are enough to create a pleasant environment and travel the listener to his deepest thoughts”
Passing on to “True Colour” and “Precious Swan” the listener comes facing two nine-minute songs. It sounds scary and fatigue, but it’s actually quite the opposite. Very good blending of the changes of the rhythm, along with the companionship of the cellos and the backing female vocals, these two songs breathe into the album, making it different from other acoustic albums.
“Time”, which is also a song -the sixth one- and it’s a song, that none should skip and this is not because of the music, but because of the lyrics. This song is more story-telling and the main focus is the meaning and the power of time. The lyrics stick inside anyone’s thoughts, while the magnitude of them, echo for a long time. A song worthy of carrying the same title, as the whole album.
Last but not least, comes “Rebecka”. The resemblance with Johny Cash’s “Hurt”, may not go unnoticed and this is because of the similarity in the beginning and the plain recording of a single guitar and vocals with a microphone. The lyrics, once more, are more than touching, drooling through every listener’s head. The song, sounds like a true story filled with pain and this can be understood from the trembling in Magnus’ voice. A very sensational track and probably the perfect ending for “Time”. Now it’s time for you to not just listen to it, but understand it!
