Alternative metallers VAIN VELOCITY have been around since 2009, and though their short life as a band, they’ve accomplished many things in the Greek metal scene. After one demo and two full lengths they decided to return with a five piece EP.
Opening track “Bloodlines” gives out the band’s intensions and genre location. PARADISE LOST influenced alternative metal (-Symbol of Life- era) mixed together with some KORN/SLIPKNOT breaks and drumming, while some LACUNA COIL-oriented melodies, polish the sound to a more atmospheric glimpse! The rest of the songs follow this same line of influences leaning more towards the nu-metal version of those bands, that have been previously mentioned.
The production sounds super professional and proper to the outcome of the songs, helping the listener built the imagery of the songs which is quite important for this short of music, that is atmospheric and crunchy simultaneously.
The compositions though, seem to have a certain character and similarity amongst them, which is also a nice element to some extent.
An overall nice presentation of five new songs by the band and a great appetizer for another full length in the near future. For anyone who’s into the European atmospheric metal of mid 00s, VAIN VELOCITY will give you 20 minutes of beautiful songs. Indulge.
