As a musician, I always wanted to make an album with all those holiday songs that either we admit it or not, we all like it deep down inside. Plus if you have a child or a small brother or sister I bet you would prefer to listen with him the magical Christmas tunes with a little bit of metal. Well if you like that idea then you should definitely give a try to “A Holiday Album”. An instrumental album that is 100% described by it’s title. Holiday’s songs with a lot of August Burns Red metalcore passing’s and riffs.
August Burns Red gave us some holiday songs like “Carol of the Bells” in the past and now they came up with a whole album of these type of songs. This is not a pure metal album that you would put into your cd player and sit back and listen. This album is about fun and I bet that it will cheer you up if you’re having a bad day. Don’t take it too seriously, though I’m sure that ABR worked really hard for this release.
It smelled Christmas since I pressed the play button. “Flurries” witch is an original song, along with “Sleddin’ Hill”, gave me a good taste of whats coming up next and left a smile on my face. “Frosty The Snowman” and “God Rest Ye Marry Gentlemen” have a little more blastbeats than they should but they are both enjoyable in their way. “Jingle Bells”, “Oh Holy Night” and “We Wish You a Merry Christmas” were exactly what I would want to hear from a rock version. The part of the album I enjoyed the most was “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer” which is the only song in the entire album that has lyrics and the band is singing like drunk friends returning home after a Christmas beer night out.
Coming to a conclusion, this is a must hear for the ABR fans and a you should definitely hear for the rock/metal fans. It will cheer you up since Holidays are on their way.
