Blut Aus Nord is a very famous band from France and they play atmospheric black metal. I think this would be all you could say about them a couple years ago, but the last releases are not that of black metal. Is it dark ambient? Is it industrial or electro music? I really cannot say.
This is “Cosmosophy” the third and the last part of the “777” trilogy that started in 2011 with the very good “777 – Sect(s)”. It started nice, although a not clearly black metal CD;”777 – Sect(s)” was a great effort on this dark music they play today. If you want to listen to blast beats and high pitched screams, i.e. black metal, I must warn you to stay away. Black metal is a tag that Blut Aus Nord gained with their previous releases. This album has a few seconds of growling and no fast tempo at all.
I haven’t much to say about such an album. It is not my expertise and it is very depressive music for my tastes. The songs are all instrumentals except some parts in which you listen to some clean voices. I say voices because this isn’t singing; this is recitation in French or something like that. What you can listen to this CD is long tracks of sad music. Guitar is present and the riffs of it are slow leads and clean patterns more like rock gothic bands. I must admit there is some rock drumming spotted, or should I say drum machine. Slow and boring that is. Blut Aus Nord made their fans through the years by playing atmospheric black metal. Nowadays the black metal elements are totally abandoned by Vindsval. Atmosphere is here and it is filling all 45 minutes of this album. And I mean many slow doom-y riffs and many more keyboards and ambience effects. I know and I do remember well that Blut Aus Nord were experimenting through all of their discography. But this triptych really caught me off guard. And honestly the two lost acts I do not like them at all.
To end this I prefer more the raw black metal elements combined with the experimental atmosphere of their previous works. I am not a big fan of these electronic, industrial sounds in general. If you are into this dark ambient staff be the guest of Mr. Vindsval.
