For all the Creed and Alter Bridge fans that an album that everyone expected since 2010 that Mark Tremonti announced his first solo album. But who is Mark Tremonti anyway? He has been nominated for three Grammy Awards resulting in one win. He formed Creed and Alter Bridge in 2004 after Creed disbanded. Also Mark and his brother formed FRET12, an online musicians community, production company, and record label, and in 2008 release an instructional guitar documentary DVD titled “Mark Tremonti: The Sound & the Story”.
Let’s move not to “All I Was”. We all know Mark as an guitar player, a songwriter but never as a vocalist. All twelve songs in this album were written, performed and singed by Mark himself. To be honest I was expecting to hear something similar to his bands and although the structure was very familiar, the sound, the riffs and the solos we’re more metal than we are used to hear. Mark shows us his heavier side plus that he can do a lot more that backing vocals. As he had said in an interview: it would be a heavier-sounding thrash metal album, probably heavier than either Creed or Alter Bridge, and that it would have lots of soloing. Well that’s exactly what he did.
Amazing riffs and solo’s in “Leave It Alone”, “So You’re Afraid”, “All I Was” and “Decay”. A more relaxing groove at “The Things I’ve Seen” and “New Way Out” that give us a “Creed”ish feeling. And “You Waste Your Time” on repeat which has become my favorite track from the album.
An amazing album from the beginning to the end. Definitely one of the best albums I’ve heard in 2012. Just don’t waste your time and give it a listen.
