Here comes the second part of Oro, Opus Alter. After the first part Oro, Opus Premium filled with psychedelic sounds, the second part was more than expected.
We easily found the colored sounds of the previous album, as both have been recorded at the same time. And we ask ourselves why release them separately? Marketing? Create larger Audiance? Different styles?
These questions are soon vanished away under the impact of the second volume. This time Ufomammut have created their progression in the rhythm section. The psychedelic sounds still present but this time in a more distant role. Buzzing in your head the give the main role to the rhythmic work to the hitting guitar riffs! Oroborus the instrumental opening track puts you immediately on your knees. And it’s only the beggining…
Luxon gives the illusion of air before asphyxiation! The title confirms that the rest of the album will be centered in the metronomic cut off. If with Opus Premium the Italians sent us to the stars, with Opus Alter they bring us brutally back to earth to deal with gravity.
Opus Alter sound less sludge than past release due to a willing of creating a stronger form and a more muscle work. Sulphurdew with its 12 min. Length makes no exception to this rule. Rhythm, rhythm and more rhythm!
The first Oro was a hypnotizing album, making the audience enter progressively but with restrain in its universe. The second Oro is a vital wake up. Still hypnotizing, but this time by the loud hammering sound.
Oro: Opus Premium has been an excellent trio album having everything we could expect from this band. This second album is far beyond what we expected based on the first one. I still don’t understand why they didn’t release them at the same time! Oro: Opus Alter takes over and spoils the release of the previous one. The separated releases fade and shadow Opus Premium. Anyway if you already own the first Oro you should definitely not pass aside the second part of it. A massive Ufomammut release!
