Death metal is the music I always loved. In all of its forms, brutal, grind or melodic, I was always stand for it. Many would say that this kind of music is dead. I will partly agree. There are groups that recycle their sound over and over again. Yet every year there is an album that is hold the flag high.
Beneath The Massacre is a band that followed the path of technical brutal deathcore. In my opinion the core is a word that can’t combine with death metal. But still there are bands that successfully blend the core elements without being noticed by the listener.
Beneath The Massacre achieved that blending with their new production. They come from the country of Canada, the home country of Cryptopsy, and the aftertaste of their new album is a bittersweet one. They produced a very mature CD compared to their previous ones. You can listen to it easily without the technical riffs overdose you with their complexity. The length of the tracks helps so that you don’t get burned out of the headbanging and makes the listening lightweight, if this is possible for a death metal album.
Still this album could compare to a Dying Fetus or an Origin CD without a hint of ripping them off but it could never overtake them. There are great brutal, bear-like vocals and magnificent complex and technical deathcore riffs. The speed is as fast as a descent death metal band would have with Justin Rousselle (Drums) giving one hundred percent of his ability for this to happen. Forgive me but “Incongruous” is lacking of originality. I couldn’t find anything innovative in the whole thirty minutes listening to the album. Even the same titled instrumental track seems out of purpose.
In conclusion I don’t think the album of something extravagance and it won’t being played many times in my CD player, but it is a well played brutal death metal CD. So for my relaxing times it is ok.
