Before I start writing about this review, I would like to thank some remarkable people who helped me discover and listen some good new bands. I always said to myself “why ain’t there no band like Death”? I thought that there would never exist a band like Death and here I said that these guys reminded me a lot of them. Illogicist had never been before reported from the Greek sites or magazines, so it was about time.

Illogicist is a technical death metal band which founded in 1997 in Aosta by Italian guitarist Luca Minieri and drummer Remy Curtaz by then. The band is heavily influenced by the sound of Death, Pestilence, Atheist and Cynic. Before their first album they have released some demos too, actually in 2002 ”Polymorphism of Death” and in 2003 ”Dissonant Perspective”. The first album of the band was released in 2002 and was called ”Subjected” , I would say it passed unnoticed by the metal fans but in 2007 the second album of the band ”The Insight Eye” had left many metalheads with their mouths open. And in 2011 I had the honor to listen to the new album which is called ”The Unconsciousness of Living”. When I heard this album, the great Chuck Schuldiner came to my mind and I said ”If Chuck had lived today, I’m sure that his music would sound like this of Illogicist”. Their riffs of the guitars, the fretless bass and some melodies of their album reminds me the good days when Chuck provided to us his best self. Illogicist have taken the best parts of Chuck’s albums with a modern sound and they have put them in their own songs without this being called ”copy”. I think that Death”s later era (the “Individual Thought Patterns” and “Symbolic” eras in particular), is tightly tied up together. Now when there’s no Chuck Schuldiner and his vision to continue the band’s world enslaving with their unique and progressive death Metal, Italian Illogicist are probably the best candidate for that purpose.

The album is promising for each metal fan who likes the technical death metal and of course bands like the ones we mentioned before. Illogicist are influenced by music that I love and they have so much talent in their music. The album is full of killer music songs like “ The Mind Reaper”, ”Misery of A Profaned Soul” and ”A Never Ending Fall” are the three highlights of the album, also they have some great moments in the album such as the “Ghost of Unconsciousness“ which reminds me the main riff of “Without Judgment“ by Death and that’s the reason that I like this band, because it has the best elements of great bands . ”The Unconsciousness Of Living” is an incredibly accomplished technical death metal record, and its positive aspects -of which there are many- cannot be ignored. Someone who has not yet heard this band should be amazed by what Illogicist offers.
