…And finally there came to be the return of the prodigal sons… One of the best bands to ever emerge from the most extreme sideof music is finally back after long absence. The legendary American brutal deathsters Gorgasm (not to be confused with the French band which later changed its name to Gorod in order to avoid confusion between the two bands) unleash their new masterpiece entitled ‘’Orgy Of Murder’’, their first album since 2003 and after they split up for a long time. Once again we are in position to say that there is no need to try and play multiple streams of riffs to become understood. In their case, things are more than simple. Relentless brutality in eleven tracks that last less than half an hour and are about to make your head roll for good.
It’s been eight long years since ”Masticate To Dominate” and I was in great agony to see what they could do this time and how fresh they could sound. Once ‘’Bloodlust’’ enters, the American quartet delivers blood and pain through the whole small duration of their new effort. ‘’Orgy Of Murder’’ was more than expected, as we have always known the quality of Gorgasm as a band, and it was worth the wait. What makes things even better is that you get used to the album even from the first listening. Especially tracks like ‘’Dirty Cunt Beatdown’’ grip you at once (with Pascal from Amagortis doing some extra vocals on it).
Gorgasm are as brutal as it can get, but through their playing, one cannot help but remembering old death metal gods such as Cannibal Corpse, Morbid Angel or Dying Fetus, as they maintain this classic ‘90s aura of the old school death metal scene. Also, though the album keeps blasting its way through your ears, there are some special crawling parts inside it that add many bonuses to the whole result (such as the beginning of ‘’Decapitation Sodomy’’ for example). Mid tempo nightmares accompany sometimes the countless blast-beat battery that takes place on the 28 minutes the album lasts. We must also state there was an album called ”Destined To Violate” to be released before they split up. So it’s more than nice to see them back with us, two of its songs ended up in a promo they did in 2006.
Songs that mainly last less than three minutes (with ‘’Exhibit Of Repugnance’’ being the longest one and put right in the middle of the album) but contain much more material than you might listen in an album lasting about an hour for example. ‘’Sweet’’ titles such as ‘’Cum Inside The Carcass’’, ‘’Erotic Dislimbing’’, ‘’Axe To Mouth’’ and the closing one ‘’Silence Follows Dismemberment’’ show you what’s really going on inside the album and what you have to expect.Well, Gorgasm may not be that romantic, but they are as essential as they must in order to make you push the play button again as soon as it is over. After all, death metal is not about exhibiting your skills but it’s all in the direct playing that makes adrenalin flow quicker through the veins of our bodies.
Just a listening to tracks like ‘’Scourge Of The Christians’’ (with Shaun LaCanne of Putrid Pile contributing) will make you see that they are not just a bunch of wannabes who play brutal music just for the credit. I think that the fact of their split enabled the leader Damian Leski to be more focused in what he wanted to do, so he returned with a totally new line-up that respects the Gorgasm legacy and helps him express himself even better. We can’t help but welcoming them back with open arms and since it’s difficult to see them live, we wish them to stay as active as possible with such albums to follow. And something which I once saw and I always like stating in such cases: BRUTALITY COMES THROUGH SIMPLICITY!
