This one third, of the great UK’s doom/death unholy trinity, strike us down once again. Having already released their latest observation “For Lies I Sire”, My Dying Bride bring on this four track E.P. to please our ears, for a second time, this year.
The four tracks consist of, the title track “Bring Me Victory” in a special edition mix, that the band used on the promo video for the song. A cover of “Scaraborough Fair”, a cover of Swans’ “Failure” and a live recording of “Vast Choirs” from their appearance at Graspop 2008.
As long as the titletrack is concerned, anyone that adores, admires and pleases him/herself to MDB’s recent releases, knows exactly how it sounds like. Although, I have a sense that this “chopped” video mix, makes the song somehow empty-or at least not complete-. As for the covers, “Scaraborough Fair” really was a surprise, because I already knew the original song and thought who big of a challenge, it would be for a metal band, to give it a try. Arranged to the band’s sound and style, it really made me realize, once more, how big of a band MDB are. Swans’ “Failure”, adapted to the familiar sound of a MDB’s “ballads” gives us a hint, about the main influences of the band’s second and flourising era. Quite enjoyable both covers i should say.
And now the live track of “Vast Choirs”. Excuse me for saying that, this was my personal highlight, on this release. You know, these special treats from the past, you can never get enough. MDB have changed their style, have evolved throughout the years, but as it seems, their past is still giving them lifeforce. Thankfully, their past does so also to us fans too. Excellent live version.
Can’t wait to see them live! Anywhere! Indulge yourself to another proud release from these masters of gloom!
