Beastmilk, Anal Veritas // An Club, Athens, Greece // 02.11.2014
A year ago I claimed that if there was a group right now, whose music is a totally fresh and innovative part of music scene, that group would definitely be Beastmilk. With their debut record, “Climax”, the band reached gothic rock, along with punk, under a post-apocalyptic theme. The record did not include even one song which was not a hit-song or a catchy one and the band became quickly known; hatred by many as well. Those who only desire to listen to revolutionary stuff and bands that look in the past but do not get lost in it, followed Beastmilk without remorse and in the 2th of November the chance to watch the band on stage along with Anal Veritas has finally came due to CTS Productions.
First things first, the Greek Anal Veritas came on stage to present their set until Beastmilk’s. The band is a sludge metal/post-metal one, a genre which I personally did not find it appropriate to open for Beastmilk. Apart from that, the band made a quite splendid performance, presenting their songs with well and leaving us speechless with their frontman’s heavy and ‘sludgy’ vocals.
From what we have seen about Beastmilk’s concerts in the web, we all had our doubts if the band will be able to perform Climax with the same feeling as in the record. When the band opened their set and got warmed up a bit, in a bizarre way, it was like we were listening to the record. For those who make vicious thoughts, I am not implying that we there was a playback or something like that. I mean that the band was performing that perfect that we all thought the musicians in front of us weren’t real!
Kvohst must be one of the most talented frontman ever existed, because of his excellent vocal talent and his expressions on stage. With a few words he managed to drive the audience crazy and he couldn’t stop expressing himself with his body’s movements along with his voice. The rest of the team were great too, presenting many well-known hits from Climax (You’re Under Our Control, Genocidal Crush, Nuclear Winter etc) along with some hidden diamonds (Forever Animal, Children of the Atom Bomb).
The band’s performance lasted about one hour, because the band has limited discography, but they actually came back on stage to perform Death Reflects Us again, in order to please the fans. The night was a total party-one, a night you could dance, shiver and fill yourself with emotions. Only a few bands managed to create such impression in the Athenian audience and Beastmilk are among those.
‘When the sun ignites the boggy swamp ( in which our bodies lie)
our jaded eyes should trip the light like phosphorescent fires
When reapers of the rift pull your name from their boney lips
you better stand up on your grave and surf the apocalypse’
