GEOFF TATE Is ‘Sorry’ QUEENSRŸCHE Fans Were Subjected To ‘Totally Distasteful’ War Of Words Via Court Documents

Singer Geoff Tate — who was fired from the Seattle progressive rock band QUEENSRŸCHE in 2012 after fronting it for three decades — has apologized to the group's fans for the "totally distasteful" war of words that played out in the press and court documents following the split, saying that there will be a "bright side" once a settlement has been reached over the rights to the QUEENSRŸCHE name. During an appearance on last night's (Friday, March 7) edition of "Eddie Trunk Rocks" (formerly "Friday Night Rocks") radio show on New York's Q104.3 FM, Tate addressed QUEENSRŸCHE fans directly, saying: "Thank you for all the amazing letters and support people have given me in the last couple of years. It's been inspiring. "I feel so sorry for people that have loved this band and watched this totally distasteful situation happen in the press." He continued: "It's so confusing for people, 'cause they can't discern what is hype and what is Internet rumor versus what is truth and what's a court case. In any other court case, there's so much untruth that gets said because people are trying to win. And the fans really get caught up in the middle of it. It's a very frustrating, confusing situation and I'm so sorry that it had to play out this way. But there will be a bright side, I promise everybody, and I'm looking forward to that as much as I'm sure they are." Tate and his former bandmates recently requested more time to hammer out a settlement in their legal battle over the rights to the group's name. King County Superior Court Judge Beth Andrus signed a new order continuing trial date, allowing the parties four more weeks to come to an agreement over the use of the QUEENSRŸCHE name and its associated trademarks. If they cannot reach an agreement during that period, the five-day, non-jury trial is set to begin on April 7. Tate and his former bandmates were previously granted five additional weeks in two separate trial continuances in January and February to work on the details of their settlement agreement. Tate and his wife, Susan, QUEENSRŸCHE's former manager, filed a lawsuit in June 2012 asking the judge to award them the rights to the band's name in exchange for Tate paying Eddie Jackson (bass), Michael Wilton (guitar) and Scott Rockenfield (drums) the fair market value for their interests in the QUEENSRŸCHE companies. Wilton, Rockenfield and Jackson filed a countersuit against the Tates in which they accused Geoff of creative obstruction and violent behavior, and Susan Tate of questionable business practices. While ruling against Tate, the presiding judge determined that there was no legal hurdle in Tate also using the name with an all-new lineup of musicians. "I don't see any reason that Mr. Tate can't have the benefit, if he gets other members, of whatever name he uses of using the brand," Superior Court Judge Carol A. Schapira said during the July 13, 2012 court hearing. "I think [doing that would be] inherently confusing, although I'm sure the market can get these things sorted out," she added. Tate's QUEENSRŸCHE now features Tate along with guitarist Kelly Gray (QUEENSRŸCHE 1998-2001), keyboardist Randy Gane and the band's latest additions, guitarist Robert Sarzo (QUIET RIOT, HURRICANE), Rudy Sarzo (OZZY OSBOURNE, QUIET RIOT, WHITESNAKE, DIO, ANIMETAL USA) and drummer Simon Wright (AC/DC, DIO, RHINO BUCKET). Asked about the lukewarm response to "Frequency Unknown", the latest album from his version of QUEENSRŸCHE, Tate said: "I didn't have any expectations as to how it would be perceived or taken. "In my experience, having released many albums over time, I've learned that it doesn't really do me any good to put expectations on how other people perceive music, because we all perceive it differently. We all are in different places emotionally and mentally and physically. "Music is a very intimate journey and a very intimate experience. So you can't expect everyone to feel the same way about the music as you do. So, honestly, it's something I don't worry about; I don't really think about it. "For me, it's an artistic achievement every time I complete a record and release it. And for me, that's why I do it. I don't release an album to feed my ego or to flatter myself. I release a record because I feel strongly about making music. "I'm a songwriter — that's what I do — and it's a wonderful thing when what you do connects with people in a way that they find inspiring, and for me, that's enough. That's what I work for — to, first, please myself, to make myself feel a level of completeness. And that's pretty much my direction." According to Darski, at least some of the inspiration for the new BEHEMOTH album came from his five-month bout of leukemia he overcame in January 2011, after receiving a bone-marrow transplant. "When I was in the hospital, I was collecting experiences and emotions," he said. "I'm pretty sure that it's coming out now. There are moments I catch myself thinking about how my state was back then. It was me versus life, me versus death. It definitely changed my thoughts a lot. THE ANSWER: ‘New Horizon’ Video Released

The official video for "New Horizon", the title track of the fourth studio album from Irish rockers THE ANSWER, can be seen below. The CD, which features mixes from rock icon Mike Fraser (AC/DC, METALLICA), was released on September 27, 2013 in Europe and October 1, 2013 in North America via Napalm Records. Since its third studio album in late 2011, THE ANSWER iinstigated a major shakeup in its circumstances and with new management, live booking agents and with new record label on board, late 2012 saw them enter the studio with ex-LITTLE ANGELS vocalist Toby Jepson at the production helm. The band was honored and privileged that the late Storm Thorgerson and his team designed the artwork for "New Horizon" and Storm was working on the album cover design just before his sad passing. In an interview with Sea Of Tranquility, THE ANSWER frontman Cormac Neeson stated about "New Horizon": "It's an aggressive, hard-rockin' album that gets your ass shaking, for sure. "I think we've got stronger at songwriting with every album. We also know how to play a bit now too. Along with some help from Toby, we were able to compile around twenty five good songs before we went into the studio. Then it was just a case of picking the ten that would make the clearest statement of where we're at as a band. Although there's a lot of great stuff on the limited edition digi version and vinyl edition of the album, including three tracks that were recorded during the actual album session but just missed out on the final cut. There's also a few interesting arrangements of some of the album tracks." THE ANSWER consists of Cormac Neeson (vocals), Paul Mahon (guitar), Micky Waters (bass) and James Heatley (drums).

ANTHRAX’s SCOTT IAN Says 12 Songs Have Already Been Written For Next Album

Asked about the progress of the songwriting sessions for ANTHRAX's follow-up to 2011's "Worship Music" album, Ian said: "We're in the middle of writing right now. That's just basically all we've been doing, is working on songs. We're just hard, hard, hard at work, with the goal — hopefully — of before the summer, before we go to Europe to start playing festivals, we would love to be able to go into the studio and start recording it. "We're going to Europe in the summer to play shows, and then maybe [we can get the] album [out] sometime later this year, but we don't have any definite schedule yet." He added: "We're just gonna keep writing until we're happy, until we're ready. We're really happy with where we're at right now, and we've got about 12 songs written. Because it's going so well, we figure, why stop? We're gonna just keep writing, and if we have too many songs, then we can just pick what we wanna put on the record." Regarding whether guitarist Jonathan Donais (SHADOWS FALL) — who joined ANTHRAX in January 2013 following the departure of Rob Caggiano — has been involved in the creative process so far, Ian said: "He hasn't contributed to the songwriting at this point, but he's writing leads, that's for sure." ANTHRAX was nominated for a "Best Metal Performance" Grammy this year for its cover of AC/DC's "T.N.T." The track was featured on ANTHRAX's eight-track EP that pays tribute to the classic songs by some of the band's favorite acts from the 1970s. The CD was released in North America on March 19, 2013 (MRI/Megaforce), and on March 22, 2013 in Europe (Nuclear Blast). BEHEMOTH frontman Adam "Nergal" Darski tells Decibel magazine about the writing process for the new CD: "When we started working on 'The Satanist''s first themes, we decided not to overthink or overanalyze things. "To me, it was clear that it's the first time in my musical career that I'm gonna play only the notes that naturally come out of my system. There's gonna be no single sound on the record that is not coherent with my inner self — with my needs, aspirations, expectations. "[2009's] 'Evangelion' was a monster of a record. I'm still very proud of it… but it's a reflection of what we were. We are way more conscious these days… and so is this record. "Maturity, sincerity, quality — 'The Satanist'." According to Nergal, BEHEMOTH's tenth album is their most fully realized to date and then some — in part thanks to his battle with leukemia in 2010 and early 2011. "I remember when l left hospital and started my recovery (which took a few months), I was saying to myself, as well to my doctors and friends, 'Cancer happens for a reason,' he said. "I was quite an aware individual before, but afterwards, I realized how much l suffered from old programming — automatic reactions that were part of my being, but wouldn't make my life any happier. "I worked on myself a lot, mentally, spiritually and physically. But I'm happy and very much thankful for this lesson of self-awareness I was given. "'The Satanist' is a fruit of this enhanced and expanded consciousness. It's more to the core, more carnal… more human than any other record we've made. "I'm super proud of myself and my bandmates. "But what I wanted to say in the first place is that l experienced this sickness so that I can come out stmnger than before. There was no other option for me in life. "I know there are a lot of people who, after a near-death experience, they kinda hide in the shadow of life praying for every next day. I am not afraid of life, as I am not afraid of death.
