Atlanta progressive metallers MASTODON have issued the following update:
“For those of you who are interested, yes, we have been VERY busy writing and putting songs together for the next studio MASTODON album. We are down at our space hammering out riffs that can be friends and working our fingers to the bone to put out another great album.”
Regarding the sound of the new MASTODON music he is pumping out, guitarist/vocalist Brent Hinds told MTV Hive last year: “A lot of the stuff I’m writing is in open G-minor. I’m playing a lot of slide guitar and just getting really Jimmy Page-y on the place and getting really eerie and RADIOHEAD-ish and very spooky-sounding.”
On the topic of the songwriting process in MASTODON, Hinds said: “There’s never really a shortage of music with MASTODON because all of us are working on something musically. I’m in good company. Just because they might [see me] stand in the middle of the stage or something, people might think this is the leader. He must conduct everything, but we’re all the leaders. We spread the weight around.”
As previously reported, MASTODON wrote and recorded a song for the upcoming animated film “Monsters University”.
Due out in July, “Monsters University” is the prequel to 2001’s “Monsters, Inc.” Billy Crystal and John Goodman reprise their roles in the prequel as the wise-cracking Mike Wazowski and lovable Sulley.
MASTODON‘s latest album, “The Hunter”, came out in September 2011 through Reprise Records.
MASTODON was among the nominees for the 54th annual Grammy Awards, which was held on February 12, 2012 at Staples Center in Los Angeles. The band’s Grammy nomination was for “Curl Of The Burl”, the first single from “The Hunter”.
