Rex Mundi – Perception In Design

It was about a year ago or something when I personally observed a real progress of the Greek scene. It was bands like Drunkard, Dustynation, Echidna, Suicidal Angels, Psychochoke, Crystal Tears, Maplerun, Bios and a lot of other ones releasing such professional and great albums that moved the entire scene one step forward to a higher level. I could take the responsibility to say that we’ve finally achieved to make albums equal to the standards of the European scene.

This time we have another great release of a Greek metal band. Rex Mundi are coming from Thessaloniki, Greece and their history starts back in 2002. The first ever release of the band was the demo “Balance Between Madness And Hope” in 2007 which received a really positive feedback by both the fans and the media.

What we have here is the first full-length album of the band that is called “Perception In Design” consisting of 10 songs. From the very first listening of the album the band proves the progress that I was talking about above. The solid production of the album is the first “sample” of a professional work.

Musically the album is a mixture of hundred perplexed but well structured ideas inspired by a lot of different music directions. The total of the album breathe out a great music karma being progressive, metal and aggressive the same time. It reminds a lot bands such as Nevermore and Cynic; two bands for which there is no doubt that have deeply influenced Rex Mundi’s music.

“Figure In A Dream” is my favorite song of the album. This song is a real storm of melodies and emotions that you’ll surely love from the first listening. On the other hand, “Demise Machine” is the killer song of the album moving onto more aggressive paths with a lot of thrash elements and a riffing holocaust; the best one for live shows and merciless headbanging.

The surprises of the album don’t stop here. The album features some really interesting guest appearances that will definitely keen on your interest; Efthimis Karadimas (Nightfall), Sakis Tolis (Rotting Christ), Alan Averill (Primordial), Alex Katsigiannis (Wastefall), Dimitris Dourvas (Siva Six). I bet that I have already convinced you to check them out if you haven’t already!

Overall, Rex Mundi made a great debut album proving once again that the Greek scene worth your attention.

In conclusion I would like to say that I’m really happy about the obvious progress that the Greek scene achieved the last years. A very promising generation is coming after the veterans Rotting Christ, Septic Flesh and Nightfall to continue the legacy. Keep up the good work guys. I always believed on you all. The future is yours.
