Italy doesn’t have a great reputation, as far metal bands are concerned. Although, Sadist happen to be out of those who are without taste and personality.
Having a strong back catalogue, Sadist strike back with “Season In Silence” a bit differently than their past. On this one Progressive metal has been the basic element of their compositions and death metal goes only for the vocal lines. I nice guess would be how do these two collide on this one, thus Sadist have been quite unstable from release to release. Well, let’s just say that on “Season In Silence” the outcome is somehow very well balanced.
Weird keys everywhere, create a certain bizarre atmosphere. Progressive metal guitar parts and solos, with a difficult to follow background of extreme bass/drums show-off. Finally, some jazz/fusion elements as always, give these twelve new songs their unique and special character wearing the Sadist trademark sound.
The variety of brutal vocal styles should be also mentioned, but I think that this band would be a lot more interesting if they’d traeated clean vocals the same as brutal. The production is absolutely excellent!
If Atheist had something to say nowadays, it has already been told by Sadist. All you out there, who listen to progressive metal genres…This is not to be missed despite the silly front cover!
