One can notice, that Mercenary have turned musically in a more American approach, as far their sound and their compositions are concerned. Their main elements of strong power metal refrains can still be noticed throughout their songwriting. Their thrashy/ death metal moments, although, have unfortunately been replaced with tight beatdowns technical as hell, but sometimes boring as hell too. Also ,the lesser used keyboards have made a strong deference as well. No more vast choruses etc. just tight and mid tempo songs –mostly- with many musical gestures quite pleasing to the ear I assume.
Production- wise, keeping their tradition once again, this release tops all their previous ones setting the standards beyond comparison. Absolutely modern and crystal clear sound, without any element of surprise, fortunately I could say, as most bands of their genre tend to overproduce their music, having a completely different result of what they can actually deliver on stage when needed. Absolutely exemplary I could say!
Summing it all up, although it seems to be lacking the freshness their records once had as a hidden ace, Mercenary managed once again to make a well balanced record, that despite it doesn’t sound anything far from their latest releases, surely stands proud amongst them as equal. Until their next release you can surely listen to this one with enough pleasure.
