Passiondale is the title of God Dethroned latest ”child”. The dutch band have returned with a concept album about the battle of Passchendaele which takes place in world war one. The Battle of Passchendaele was a big part of Britain’s offense against German troops in Belgium.
Talking about music now, God Dethroned are here and they give us a superb mixture of Death and Black Metal, full of aggression and melody. ”Under a darkening sky” is the first track and the ”battle” starts; powerful and very aggressive riffs with a ” in your face” attitude.
”No mans land” and God Dethroned sound very fresh, surely the changes in the line up have given this fresh sound. ”Poison Fog” comes next and maybe its one of the best songs in this record, some clean vocals and a great guitar solo combining well with God Dethroned great metal riffing.
”Drowning in mud” coming with a great black metal riff somewhere in the middle of the song and before the homonymous track come. ”Passiondale” and the rythms are getting slow with a death metal song full of melodic riffing. ”No survivors” and one of the strongest songs and its hitting you in the face. The last 3 songs of the album are exactly what are you expecting. great death/black riffing combined with smart melodies that stuck in your head.
The CD was recorded at Soundlodge studios in Germany with producer Jörg Uken. and i think that the final result of the Cooperation is succesfull.
