Oddland, is a fresh band coming straight from the very north of Europe, the beautiful metal country of Finland. Their debut album “The Treachery of Senses”reached our ears and the public’s interest, after they have won several Metal Star contests, for new bands in their country, the past few years. Something most bands don’t usually enjoy after the passing of the contests, though, is the interest of major labels for any kind of release. Well, as it seems with Oddland that’s not the case, as Century Media believed and embraced these lads and here we are to see what they have on their debut, for all of us.
From the very first notes already, you can understand for sure that “Treachery” surely meets the highest standards of a fresh metal production. Super clear, dynamic, bright and quite full one might say, that Dan Swano’s work once again shows flawless elements and brilliant vision fulfilled to its maximum.
As for their music direction there’s nothing more to say than two words… PROGRESSIVE METAL! Very high quality progressive metalpaths steping to the high peaks of the genre including influences from bands like Dream Theater, Fates Warning, Sieges Even, Symphony X, Tool, Dead Soul Tribe mixed up with many folkish twists here and there, and some quite impressive virtuoso playing by everyone.
Their vocal approach almost spoken although sang, not quite high pitched screams, just intense melodies that play their unique role throughout the compositions.
Oddland with “The Treachery of Senses” manage to convience any metal fan out there especially those of the progressive metal sound. A great debut although the hooks that miss almost make the outcome quite difficult at times. But here we have a band that might one day be above each and every one of their band/influences. Until their next then…Enjoy the newcomers…
